2013 Bull Sale Report

A good crowd gathered for the sixth Granite Ridge Bull Sale held on the 13th February 2013, with bulls selling into three states.

54 bulls sold to a high of $8,000 and an average of $4,287.

Topping the sale at $8,000 was Lot 15, Granite Ridge 4D7 of 338 G153, sold to Doug Tozer (Onslow Angus of Wallenbeen NSW) through Andy McGeoch (Elders Dubbo).  Doug was impressed with the length and frame of Lot 15, commenting that his feet were exceptional for a bull his size.  This bull is an ET son out of an exceptional donor cow, Vermont Dream B272 by Rito 4D7 of 2536 338. He has a moderate birth weight, huge growth& carcase weights, 200 day & 400 day weights in the top 5% of the breed, and 600 day weight & carcase weights in the top 1%.  On top of this he has +15 for milk, +6.7 for EMA, +1.5 for IMF and is in the top 10% for all dollar indexes.

Second top priced bull was Lot 1, a powerful son of GAR Predestined, sold to Dave Hage (Morundah, Bool Lagoon SA) for $7,500 through SAL Naracoorte.  His dam, a donor cow, The Grange Imran Rosebud D81 is the mother of our 2012 top priced Bull (Granite Ridge Thomas F223) and had three ET sons in the sale (Lots 1, 2, & 3).  The three sons sold well; Lot 2 sold to TJ & MEM Higgins (Sale Vic) for $6,500 through Rodwells Sale, and ID & B Cobiac (Kingston) took home Lot 3 for $6,000 through Elders Kingston.

Buyers were a good mixture of new and return purchasers. Volume Buyers were Peter and Anne Murray (Cygnet Park, Kingscote KI), who purchased strongly throughout the sale. They took home 10 bulls through Landmark Kingscote KI, averaging $3,050 with the top price of $3,500. Return buyer MS, CC & RB Johnson (Lucindale) put together a good line of 5 bulls with a top price of $6,500 and an average of $4,800 purchased through Landmark Naracoorte.

Though the number of bulls passed in was disappointing, we were satisfied with both the top price and average attained.  The season has been hard with very limited feed available and this with the much reduced returns on stock has depressed the cattle job.

Thank you to all who participated.
